100 Most Expensive Keywords for Google Ads in 2025

We analyzed our database of 28.7 billion keywords to identify the most expensive keywords people are bidding for on Google Ads.

These are the 100 most expensive keywords on Google Ads, along with their monthly search volume and cost per click (CPC).

The main reason is due to Google’s ads mechanism:

  • Google Ads operates on a pay-per-click auction system.
  • There are only a few ads that appear for each keyword.

Companies have to outbid each other in order to secure their spot at the top of the search results. If demand for a keyword is high, it means more companies are bidding for it, therefore driving up the cost per click.

Example of a Google Ad

Demand for a keyword is high when companies believe it will generate a return on investment (ROI). Typically, you’ll see this when:

  • The industry offers high-value services or products (e.g., legal, finance) as each potential sale generates a lot of revenue.
  • The keyword signals strong purchase intent (e.g., personal injury lawyer near me) as they’re likely to lead to direct sales or high-quality leads.
  • The location is competitive and populous, e.g., “divorce lawyer in New York” will be more expensive than “divorce lawyer in Provincetown”.
  • There is a peak season (e.g. tax season, holidays)

I analyzed the top 10,000 most expensive keywords to see which niches they belong to:

  • Legal services (17.52%), with a focus on accident and injury law in specific locations (e.g., Baton Rouge)
  • Ecommerce (3.85%), with a focus on promotional codes, brand-specific queries, and product searches.
  • Education (2.58%), with a focus on university-related keywords, career and technical education centers, and student services and programs.
  • Financial services (1.52%), with a focus on trading platforms, banking services, and investment-related terms.
  • Technology (1.13%), with a focus on software development services, computer vision development, technical education and training, and international outsourcing (e.g, Romania)

Marketing consultant Dan Kennedy once said, “Whoever can spend the most money to acquire a customer wins.”

Your goal is not to avoid paying for expensive keywords, but to bid for keywords that make sense according to your goals and strategy. If a keyword generates a positive ROI for you, then you should continue bidding on that keyword, no matter how expensive it is. (Expensive is relative after all; a $10 cup of coffee is expensive to me, but could be of value to a snob.)

That said, there are ways to run your Google Ads more effectively, such as:

  • Targeting long-tail keywords (e.g., “affordable personal injury lawyer in New York”), rather than generic, broad keywords like “personal injury lawyer”
  • Using negative keywords to prevent your ads from appearing on irrelevant searches.
  • Improving your Quality Score by writing relevant ad copy and creating targeted landing pages.
  • Using retargeting to focus on people who’ve already interacted with your website or shown interest in your brand, product, or service.

If your competitors are paying for certain keywords, it may indicate that they’re profitable for them—and could be for you too.

Here’s how to find these keywords:

  1. Go to Ahrefs’ Site Explorer
  2. Enter your competitor’s domain
  3. Go to the Paid Keywords report
Paid keywords report

For example, if we analyze asana.com, we can see they’re bidding on 1,367 keywords in the U.S. We can also see the keywords they’re bidding on and how much they’re paying for each keyword (CPC).

If you hover over the magnifying glass, you can even see the ad they’re running for that keyword and the link they’re sending paid traffic to.

Highest CPC Niches and Keywords

Ever wonder what makes businesses stand out on the Search Engine Ranking Page (SERP)? The answer is the power of Cost-Per-Click marketing which charges businesses a certain amount every time a user clicks on a particular keyword. The cost of a click ranges from pennies to dollars, depending on the trends and industry.

Businesses invest in high CPC keywords as they know that the users searching for these keywords are often in the advanced stage of the buying cycle. This blog is all about the keywords that cost up to $1000 and also includes the list of the most expensive CPC keywords.

What are $1000 CPC Keywords?

$1000 are the search terms for which businesses are willing to pay a staggering $1000 for every click on their ad.

These keywords are typically associated with high-ticket services or products like legal services, financial advice, or medical consultations. The high purchase intent and high competition for these keywords make the cost up, but they are worth investing in as the potential return on investment is substantial, if the right keyword is targeted.

Most Expensive CPC Niches

1. Insurance

The first and most expensive CPC niche is insurance. This industry offers the highest ROI because of the significant profit margins, urgency, and upselling and cross-selling opportunities. The insurance niche tops the list of most expensive CPC niches with an average CPC of $19.87 and a monthly search volume of 398K

2. Loans and mortgages

Loans and mortgages are other expensive CPC niches because of the high competition and probability of nurtured leads. Due to the high search volume for words like “personal loan,” “home mortgages,” and “student loan,” the average CPC ranges between $44.28 and $47.12

3. Lawyer and Attornies

The legal operations are likely to generate substantial revenue, so the bidding cost for relevant legal keywords is quite high. Legal keywords like “NAACP legal defence fund” have CPC costing up to $277.34 with 1300 monthly search volume, and “mesothelioma attorney specialized” with approx CPC of $1000 depicts that lawyer and attornies niche lies in the expensive CPC niches

4. Credit

The financial sensitivity of the topics makes the credit-related keywords such as credit repair, credit cards, and bad credit loans highly competitive. Users who are looking for credit-related solutions are more likely to take action, and this is what makes these keywords highly valuable for advertisers, costing up to an average CPC of $36.06

5. Trading

With the rising trend of cryptocurrency, blockchain, and NFT-based content portals, the trading industry has become one of the most talked about highest CPM niches. Keywords like “crypto com Twitter” and “crypto com Reddit” have CPCs of $137.8 and $135.98 respectively, whereas the average CPC cost of this niche is $33.19

6. Health and Fitness

Since COVID-19, the health and fitness niche has been in the trend, making it one of the niches with the highest CPC. Google itself reported that every day nearly 7% of searches are only related to this category. This is why the average CPC cost for treatment-related keywords is $37.8 and the cord blood industry has an average CPC of $27.8

7. Real Estate

Real estate keywords are high-ticket keywords as they are likely to generate huge profits for the advertiser. With keywords like “buy my house” having a CPC of $111.07, this industry falls under the category of expensive CPC niches.

8. Digital Marketing

With the transition of businesses to digital platforms, the demand for digital services has also increased. This is why businesses look for digital marketing professionals online for their high-ticket projects as well. Due to the competitiveness, the advertisers have to pay up to $225 for marketing on keywords like “pay-per-click marketing agency”.

Why Are They So Expensive?

Have you ever thought about the reasons that make these keywords this much expensive? Well, it’s all a matter of demand.

The qualified leads that consultancy businesses, lawyers, attorneys, and health professionals generate from these keywords pay them up to thousands of dollars. So, the high bid for these keywords makes sense.

Furthermore, every competitor wants to grab high-ticket clients and with an influx of competitors, the fight to be at the top of the SERP can only be won by paying more money per click

Another reason for the high prices of these keywords is that the leads generated by advertising on such keywords are ready-to-buy leads and there are high chances of conversion.

He reportedly questioned the plan’s feasibility and long-term implications by asking, “Who will govern 2 million people?”, highlighting a rift between political leadership and defense officials on the strategic management of the conflict and its aftermath.

Migrants in US detention lose appeal against deportation to South Sudan

The US Supreme Court has twice upheld Donald Trump’s ability to deport foreign nationals to countries outside their own.

On Friday, Judge Brian Murphy of Boston denied the eleventh-hour appeal, which has been the subject of a flurry of legal activity throughout the day.

The appeal argued that repeated efforts under President Donald Trump to deport the men to South Sudan was “impermissibly punitive”. It pointed out that the US Constitution bars “cruel and unusual punishment”.

In the past, the US Department of State has accused South Sudan of “extrajudicial killings, forced disappearances, torture and cases of cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment”. It advises no American citizen to travel there due to an ongoing armed conflict.

But the US Supreme Court has twice ruled that the Trump administration could indeed deport the men to countries outside of their homelands. Its latest decision was issued on Thursday.

The US Department of Justice indicated that the eight men were set to be flown to South Sudan by 7pm US Eastern Time (23:00 GMT) on Friday. They hailed from countries like Cuba, Laos, Mexico, Myanmar, Sudan and Vietnam.

The last-ditch appeal was filed on Thursday night, shortly after the Supreme Court rendered its decision.

Initially, the case was assigned to US District Judge Randolph Moss in Washington, DC, who signalled he was sympathetic to the deportees’ request.

He briefly ordered the deportation to be paused until 4:30pm Eastern Time (20:30 GMT), but ultimately, he decided to transfer the case back to Murphy, the judge whose decisions helped precipitate the Supreme Court’s rulings.

Murphy had previously issued injunctions against the deportations to South Sudan, leading to successful appeals from the Trump administration. The eight men, meanwhile, had been held at a military base in Djibouti while the courts decided their fate.

Before he transferred the case back to Murphy, however, Judge Moss said it was possible the deportees could prove their case that the Trump administration intended to subject them to abuse.

“It seems to me almost self-evident that the United States government cannot take human beings and send them to circumstances in which their physical wellbeing is at risk simply either to punish them or send a signal to others,” Moss said during the hearing.

Lawyers for the Trump administration, meanwhile, argued that the deportation’s continued delay would strain relations with countries willing to accept migrants from other countries.

Murphy, who denied Friday’s request, had previously ruled in favour of the deportees, issuing an injunction against their removal to South Sudan and saying they had a right to contest the deportation based on fears for their safety.

The Supreme Court first lifted the injunction on June 23 and clarified its ruling again on Thursday, giving a subtle rebuke to Judge Murphy.

The Trump administration has been pushing for rapid removals as part of its campaign of mass deportation, one of President Trump’s signature priorities.

Opponents have accused the administration of steamrolling the human rights of undocumented people in order to achieve its aims, including the right to due process under the law.

But the Trump administration has framed undocumented migration as an “invasion” that constitutes a national security crisis, and it argued that its strong-armed efforts are needed to expel criminals.

The eight migrants slated to be sent to South Sudan, it said, were “barbaric, violent criminal illegal aliens”. It added that they had been found guilty of crimes, including first-degree murder, robbery and sexual assault.

“These sickos will be in South Sudan by Independence Day,” Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said in a news release on Thursday.

Thomas Partey, 32, has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, London police said.

The charges against Partey, 32, relate to complaints received from three women, with the offences reported to have taken place between 2021-2022, according to a statement on Friday by London’s Metropolitan Police.

The five rape charges relate to two different women, while the sexual assault charge relates to a third woman.

“Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward,” said Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy of the Metropolitan Police.

“We would ask anyone who has been impacted by this case, or anyone who has information, to speak with our team,” he added.

In a statement, the Ghanaian international’s lawyer Jenny Wiltshire said the footballer denies the charges and “welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name”.

“He has fully cooperated with the police and CPS [Crown Prosecution Service] throughout their three-year investigation,” she said, adding that “given that there are now ongoing legal proceedings, my client is unable to comment further”.

Police said the investigation was opened in February 2022 when they first received a report of rape.

The footballer is due to appear at London’s Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5.

Partey formerly played as a midfielder for the English Premier League football club, Arsenal.

He was first arrested in July 2022, though he was not named at the time and continued to play for Arsenal while investigations continued.

Chelsea and Barcelona fined by UEFA for financial rule breaches

Chelsea and Barca top a list of European teams fined by the continent’s governing body for breaches in financial rules.

The punishments come with the potential for far harsher fines down the road, with Chelsea, who agreed to a four-year settlement with UEFA’s Club Financial Control Body (CFCB), risking being hit with a further 60 million euros ($71m) if they do not get their finances in order.

Barcelona must pay a 15 million euro fine ($17.7m), but could potentially face 60 million in total, with UEFA fining Lyon 12.5 million and Aston Villa 11 million.

Chelsea’s fines were split into 20 million for not complying with the football earnings rule and 11 million for breaching the squad cost rule, while Aston Villa were fined five million and six million for their respective rule violations.

The clubs are also subject to a restriction on the registration of new players on their List A for UEFA club competitions such as the Champions League and Europa League.

Lyon’s four-year agreement with UEFA’s financial control body, the club’s ownership group said on Friday, would enable them to play in the Europa League next season, subject to a favourable outcome of their appeal with the DNCG, the French football financial watchdog.

Lyon’s demotion to Ligue 2 was provisionally announced by the DNCG in November due to financial irregularities and was confirmed last week.

They risk exclusion from European competitions, however, if they fail to meet the agreed targets.

The teams accepted settlement agreements which cover periods of two, three or four years, with the clubs’ final targets to be fully compliant with the football earnings rule by the end of their specific settlement period.

Chelsea sold their women’s team for 235 million euros ($277m) to a parent company, Blueco, which helped to balance their spending and avoid huge losses, despite their lavish spending in the transfer market under owner Todd Boehly. UEFA, however, refused to count the sale of the team as an asset.

The club also sold two hotels to a sister company in a deal that appears to have helped the club remain compliant with profitability and sustainability rules (PSR).

Premier League clubs are not permitted to have losses of more than 105 million pounds ($143.29m) over a three-year period.
